Rupa Goswami

Srila Rupa Gosvami is known as Bhakti-Rasacarya,the topmost maidservant of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna .The expert in the tastes of pure devotional service and was extremely dear to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He was the chief of the six Gosvamis.Sri Rupa appeared in 1489 at East Bengal, the son of a pious Brahmana named Kumaradeva along with his brothers, Sanatana and Anupama. He had  send 21 yrs as Householder or Grhasta Asrama and 51 years as a mendicant in Vrndavana. He was the direct disciples of Lord Caitanya.

He wrote numerous books, but two books are particular given intimate details on how to become a pure devotee of the Lord. Frist  book is the Bhakti-rasamrta Sindhu (The Nectar of Devotion) and second is Upadeshamrtam. For guide-lines in the proper mood and understanding, Rupa Goswami wrote books on raga bhakti (spontaneous love of God), so one's natural love may develop more and more for the Lord. Rupa Gosvami first met Lord Caitanya at Prayaga (Allahabad, India), and on the Dasvasamedha Ghat, the Lord instructed him continually for ten days. The Lord particularly instructed Rüpa Gosvami on the science of Krsna consciousness.

Later, Sril Rupa Gosvami Prabhupada elaborated the teachings of the Lord with profound knowledge of revealed scriptures and authoritative references from various Vedic literatures. Rupa Goswami established the intricately designed temple of Govindaji in Vrndavana.

The present Krsna consciousness movement is also based on the authority of Sril Rüpa Gosvami Prabhupada. We are therefore generally known as Rupanugas,or followers in the footsteps of Sril Rüpa Gosvami Prabhupäda.

He ended his Past Time in 1564 i.e 12th day of the bright fortnight of Sravan at the age of 73.
